The average EU and UK monthly carbon footprint is between 800 to 1000 Kgs CO2, and the average US monthly carbon footprint is 1600 Kgs CO2. To live in a way that is consistent with a sustainable planet we must bring our footprint down to 5 tonnes per year or 416.66 Kg CO2 per month. One way to reduce our carbon footprint is by buying consciously. Consumerism contributes towards between 55% and 65% of the climate crisis (source 1 & source 2) through various avenues, including resource extraction, manufacturing emissions, transportation of goods, waste production, industrial farming, and increased energy consumption in homes and daily living. These activities lead to substantial greenhouse gas emissions and environmental degradation. Climate Savers helps you actively track your carbon footprint and helps you find more eco-conscious brands, allowing you to reduce your environmental impact while earning cash back. We also partner with an offsetting service to reduce your footprint through high quality green offset project.
As a team, we have witnessed that governments globally have yet to respond quickly enough to the climate crisis and seem unable to collaborate. Climate Savers believe that, as a society, we already have all the tools needed to solve the climate crisis and that technology can play a role in providing what should be a public service. We are committed to helping people change their behaviour and make greener choices, which should be prioritised over offsetting. Organisations have an essential role to play in mobilising people. To make it easier and cheaper to go green, we seek to provide adequate guidance and signposting on what to buy and not buy in order to live sustainably .
After you link your bank account, your transactions will be enriched with their carbon footprint measured in CO2e Kgs and are estimated using merchant category codes (MCC), an industry standard in retail banking. If a Life Cycle Analysis (LCA) test has been conducted by an independent third-party a brand can publish its actual CO2e Kgs rather than the estimated MCC code.
